Hosting a successful Global Tourism Economy Forum to boost international exchanges and cooperation

The delegation of private entrepreneur representatives of the Tourism Chamber of Commerce visited Spain and Portugal

 

From Aril 3 to 6, 2013, Wang Ping, President of the Tourism Chamber Commerce, He Chaoqiong, Hao Xukuan, Ma Jingxuan, Wang Xiaoman, Zhang Shanjiu, Vice Presidents of the Chamber, together with entrepreneur representative, General Manager Shu Yubin and Liu Ting, President of the Chamber of Woman Entrepreneurs, went to Spain and Portugal to visit tourism authorities and organizations of the two governments as well as the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). They exchanged ideas on inviting these organization to the Second Global Tourism Economy Forum, establishing bilateral cooperation and jointly boosting tourism development in China, Spain and Portugal and reached consensus on cooperation.

 

During their visit, the delegation and representatives from the two countries had in-depth exchanges and discussion on respective tourism development and strengthening mutual cooperation on tourism. They also held a seminar focusing on the forum. Representatives of Spain and Portugal spoke highly of the international influence of the first forum and expressed their attention and support for the second forum.

 

This visit has registered many important results. First, both governments and UNWTO have stated clearly that they will continue to support the Forum and strengthen exchanges and cooperation with China’s tourism. Second, Nanjing Chamber of Commerce will arrange an entrepreneur delegation to invest in wineries and real estate of Portugal and set up inter-governmental exchange and cooperation mechanism. Third, related parties have known the basic situation of tourism through communication and discussed on some concrete cooperation projects, which can expand space for non-governmental exchanges.

 

At 3:00 pm, April 3, the delegation visited Mr. Pereira, Minister of economy and employment of Portugal. Mr. Pereira attended the first forum. He extended welcome to the delegation firstly and introduced Portugal’s tourism and investment environment. On behalf of the delegation, President Wang Ping expressed gratitude to Mr. Pereira and briefed on the Portuguese participants on the general situation of the first forum and the latest situation about the second forum. Mr. Mesquita, Portugal’s Secretary of State, elaborated local tourism business opportunities to the delegation and praised the achievements made on the first forum. He also expressed his attention on the next forum. Vice President He Chaoqiong introduced international work of the Tourism Chamber of Commerce and expressed some ideas on bilateral cooperation in tourism. During the discussion, Vice President Hao Xukuan exchanged advices with Mr. Pereira in terms of expanding tourist products and conducting tourist product trade between China and Portugal. During the meeting, Liu Ting, President of the Chamber of Woman Entrepreneurs, stated suggestions and proposals on investment between the two countries to the Portuguese representatives.

 

At 9:00 am, April 4, the delegation went to visit Portuguese Association of Travel Agents. President Pedro Costa Ferreira extended his welcome and introduced to the delegation about the development and background information of the association. President Wang Ping introduced some famous Chinese tourist attractions and invited the association to attend the second Forum in China. Vice President He Chaoqiong presented Chamber’s general situation, objectives and ongoing projects to Portuguese representatives. Vice President Ma Jingxuan exchanged ideas with Portuguese representatives on the opportunities to Portugal’s tourism brought by China’s tourism development.

 

At 10:30 am, April 4, the delegation went to visit Ambassador Huang Songpu at the Embassy of China in Portugal. Vice President He Chaoqiong introduced members of the delegation and related situations about the first and second forums. Ambassador Huang put forward some to-the-point opinions on China-Portugal relations and cooperation chances and exchanged with President Wang regarding strengthening cooperation with Portugal of China’s private tourism. Vice President Wang Xiaoman introduced to Ambassador Huang about It application of China’s tourism and the upcoming work of the chamber’s tourism IT application professional council. President Liu expressed her ideas and suggestions on China’s private enterprises’ investment and cooperation in Portugal.

 

At the noon of April 4, the delegation visited Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Portugal and met with 54 chamber members including EDP’s executive director Mr. Zu Dasi. They discussed cooperation in fields such as energy, investment, education and information. Vice President Zhang Shanjiu invited Chinese Chamber of Commerce in Portugal to attend this year’s forum and hoped it will participate in more programs in China.

 

At 10:30 am, April 5, the delegation went to visite Mrs. María Isabel, Secretary of State for Tourism of Spain. Mrs. Isabel extended welcome to the delegation and introduced Spain’s national tourism plan. President Wang introduced to present representatives about the achievements made at the first forum and the latest news about the preparation of the second one and invited Spanish delegation to attend. During the meeting, General Manager Shu Yubin, entrepreneur representative of the Chamber exchanged ideas on scenic spots development and hotel industry growth.

 

At the noon of April 5, the delegation came to the most important stop of this trip—UNWTO’s headquarter. Xu Jing, UNWTO Director of the Asia-Pacific Region, extended welcome to the delegation and introduced UNWTO’s new movements in Asia. President Wang expected two organizations to establish closer contacts on the basis of solid cooperation and dig further into China’s tourism potential so as to jointly lift the status of China’s tourism in the world. Two parties communicated on cooperation issues of the second forum. Director Xu stated that his organization would continue to support this forum and maintain close cooperation with the chamber to host a successful UNWTO Silk Road Development Conference in August.

 

At 1:30 pm, April 5, the delegation visited Ambassador Zhu Bangzao at the Embassy of China in Spain. President Wang introduced members of the delegation and goals of this trip to leaders of the embassy and the general situation of the first forum and preparation work of the second forum to Ambassador Zhu. Ambassador Zhu expressed his appraisal and support to the chamber and hoped that communication and cooperation between non-governmental organizations of the two countries can contribute to the development of tourism in both countries.
