---“China 2008 And .travel—a New Age for Tourism”

Held by Chamber of Tourism All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce

in China Ethnic Museum, Beijing

In the late afternoon of 25th April, accompanied by the auspicious sutra of the eminent Tibetan monk Dadexuanmiao, a large-scale communication event, with the theme of “China 2008 and .travel---a new age for Tourism” was launched in the Dazhao Temple plaza of Tibetan village of China Ethnic Museum. This was the largest international communication event ever held by the Chamber. During the event, China’s ethnic dances and songs won rounds and rounds of applauses from the audiences. The exciting performances, plus the magnificent main Olympic Venue, seem to foretell the golden opportunities that will be brought about by the 2008 Olympic Games.

The activity attracted more than 200 delegates from tourist companies, international tourist activities, governmental officials and members of the chamber. More than 60 media, including CCTV-1, Tourism Satellite, People’s Daily, First Finance, Soho.com, and Sina.com have covered the event, which marked the launch of .travel in China.

The 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will mark a new area for China’s tourism, which is very likely to bring about a great leap-forward of various industrial sectors in the country. The introduction of .travel, which is a whole new professional search engine for tourism would be an important step to improve the professional level of China’s tourism. It will also help to improve the influence of China’s tourist economy in the world so as to achieve larger development of the sector. At the same time, this event will also bring about access to many European and American tourism agencies into China’s market. For 80% of international tourist companies, 2008 Beijing Olympic Games will undoubtedly be a golden opportunity for them to know China.

The activity took place in China Ethnic Museum, a cultural center especially built for the Olympic Games, with Olympic Center to its east, main Olympic venue to its north, and other Olympic stadiums surrounding it. In the museum, one can appreciate the traditional buildings, dances, songs and ethnic performances of the 56 ethnic groups of China. The dinner that day contained specialties of China’s four famous cuisines, Sichuan Cuisine, Shandong Cuisine, Guangdong Cuisine and Shanghai Cuisine. Within just a few hours time, all the participants felt they were strongly attracted by the splendid Chinese culture. Indeed, with the approach of Olympic Games, the country will see more and more international tourists and provide a huge market to the ambitious and powerful international businesses.

The event turned out to be a great success. Foreign guests were deeply attracted by China’s ethnic dance and songs. Joseph Borg Olivier, Chairman of UFTAA, kept taking photos, saying that ‘I’ll keep this moment for ever’. For many foreign entrepreneurs like him, the event would not only be a beautiful memory, but more importantly, a valuable reference if they were to enter China’s market in the future.

The host of the event, Ms Wang Ping, President of the Chamber, and of the China Ethnic Museum was so glad to see the event becoming such a huge success. In her speech, she said that “for the tourist economy of China, and the world, the coming three years would be a most important period, which will also see the fastest economic growth. For all of us, it will be an opportunity but also a challenge. Tourist organizations must assume this responsibility and act as a thread connecting the pearls by linking various sectors so as to promote the development of the whole sector.” She also said that as the authentication agency of .travel in mainland China, the Chamber of Tourist of All-China Industrial and Commercial Federation can help its member enterprises and domestic private tourist businesses to register in .travel, so that the latter can get access to an international platform.

Mr. Ronald Andruff, Director of .travel project of Tralliance Co. Ltd seized the opportunity to talk with delegates from Africa Tourist Association, Asian-Pacific Tourism Association, National Tourism Bureau and other business persons so as to promote .travel in China and seek cooperation opportunities.

Mr. Ma Jinxuan, president of the SINCERE Group of Hongkong attended the event. SINCERE has started the operation of its tourism agencies exactly from this year. Mr. Ma said that the event was a good opportunity to promote the company’s operations and he hoped that in 2008, the 700 agencies affiliated to the group would bring visitors from all over the world to see the Games.

Don Birch, CEO of Abacus, the largest global distribution center in Asia-Pacific, took just a come-and-see attitude at the beginning. By the end of the activity, however, Mr. Birch felt that he and his colleges did not come for nothing. He felt that despite of all the differences of the business, there is still a large common ground for cooperation.

At the conclusion of the activity, the Director of .travel project, Mr. Ronald Andruff was so excited that he expressed deep appreciation to President Wang Ping for arranging this event. And Mrs. Andruff kept saying “Very good!” “Beautiful!” to President Wang Ping.

Other participants included Mr. Tang Hongguang, Director of the Information Center of the National Tourist Bureau; Mr. Hou Weitai, Director of the Silk Road Project of UN; Mr. Jiang Chengzong, Secretary of Chamber of Tourism All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, Mr. Liu Honglu, Director of Membership Division of All-China Industrial and Commercial Federation, and Mr. Wang Minggang, Under President of the Chamber, and Mr. Hao Xukuan, Vice President of the Chamber, and Mr. Mu Min, Vice President of the Chamber.
